The Writings

The wisdom and poetry of Israel

Alongside the story runs a stream of reflection — the poetry and wisdom literature that wrestles with suffering, meaning, and love. The Writings gathers the books that ask the deep questions of the human heart in the presence of God.

Job stares into innocent suffering; the Psalms hand us language for every emotion we are likely to have; Proverbs gives wisdom for the ordinary decisions of an ordinary week; Ecclesiastes tests whether anything under the sun can satisfy; the Song of Solomon celebrates love as a gift of the Creator. Together they teach us to bring our whole selves — grief, doubt, and delight — before the God who made us.
