The Kingdom

From Samuel and Saul to David and Solomon — and a kingdom divided

Israel asks for a king “like the other nations,” and God grants it — first Saul, then David, the man after God’s own heart, and Solomon in all his glory. This section traces the rise of the monarchy, the covenant God makes with David, and the tragic split into two kingdoms that follows.

Here God’s promise narrows to a throne: from David’s line the Messiah will come. Yet the story is honest about failure — the glory of Solomon gives way to division, idolatry, and the slow slide toward exile. Through the kings and the prophets who confront them, we see both the faithfulness of God and the cost of forsaking Him.
