The Conquest & the Judges

Into the Promised Land, and the turbulent age of the Judges

With the Law given and the wilderness behind them, Israel steps into the land God promised to Abraham. This section tells of the crossing of the Jordan, the campaigns under Joshua, and then the long, unsettled era when “everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”

It is a story of both triumph and warning. Under Joshua, God keeps His promise and gives the land; under the Judges, a cycle repeats — rebellion, oppression, crying out, and rescue — that exposes the human heart and prepares the way for a king. Ruth shines in the middle of it, pointing toward David and, beyond him, to Christ.
