MOSES’ MOTHER

Male children were being offered as human sacrifices to the river Nile She was unwilling to do so. Floated child on river in a basket Likely somewhat sneaky in that Pharaoh’s daughter may have been superstitious enough to view a child carried by the river as a “god” Final Note: Read Hebrews 11:1-22 to have insight into the faith the men of this book exercised.

JACOB’S TWELVE SONS – GEN. 29 AND 30

Reuben – BEHOLD THE LORD HAS SEEN my misery Simeon – HEARING THE LORD HAS HEARD I am not loved Levi – He will love me now – JOINED He will be “ATTACHED” to me Judah – I will PRAISE the Lord Dan – God has VINDICATED me God has heard my plea Napthali – STRUGGLE AND OVERCOME Gad – What GOOD FORTUNE God has blessed with a GREAT COMPANY Asher – How HAPPY I am – JOYFUL Issachar – God has REWARDED ME The PRICE IS PAID Zebulun – He will honor me by DWELLING WITH A DWELLING PLACE Joseph – May He ADD, make me FRUITFUL He has taken away my disgrace Ben-Oni – Benjamin Benoni – Son of my trouble Benjamin – Son of my Right Hand DINAH A DAUGHTER BORN FOLLOWING ZEBULUN interesting story in Ch. 34 – Circumcised Sheckemites then attacked the city to avenge Dinah’s being violated

THESE ARE THE TWELVE TRIBES OF ISRAEL, WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:

Levites were not considered a tribe in terms of inheritance or privileges Joseph was replaced by his sons: Ephraim – often used as shorthand for entire nation of Israel Manassah – the firstborn, but didn’t receive first blessing

NOTE THE BLESSINGS OF THE FIRSTBORN: GEN. 27 / GEN. 48

Reversed for Jacob and Esau Reversed for Ephraim and Manassah The power of the blessing and impartation of laying on of hands. They could not revoke their word.

LIFE OF JOSEPH:

One of the most classic cases of God turning adversity into blessing Brothers sold him into Egypt The result of that injustice became the salvation of the entire nation of Israel Joseph died in Egypt, and his “inheritance” was divided between his sons Ephraim and Manassah.
